| Macrobiotics: the study of prolonging life with diet or other ingested substances. |
| Malic Acid: a glycolic acid derived from apples. |
| Mallow: an anti-inflammatory that helps prevent age lines and reduce eye swelling. |
| Matte: a non-shiny surface that absorbs light. |

Melanin: the black pigment found in hair or skin. |

| Mineral Oil: an effective solvent for removing oil, grease and make-up from the skin. An excellent amplifier or intensifier allowing the skin to absorb ultraviolet rays more effectively. Most companies no longer use mineral oil in products; vegetable oils have been found to be as effective and more skin friendly. |

| Lactic Acid: a component of the skin's natural moisturizing factor. Can be used as a caustic in concentrated form. |
| Lanolin: an emollient with moisturizing properties and an emulsifier with high water absorbing capabilities. |
| Lavender: evens irregular skin tones, helps reduce acne scars. |
| Lecithin: naturally occuring phospholipid derived from soybeans. Both water and oil loving, lecithin helps protect the skin and replenish the acid mantle as well as improve the skin's feel after application. |

| Licorice: treats acne, calms allergic skin. |
