How-tology: Bath Fizz Fun!
Turn an everyday soak in the tub into a bubbling bath cocktail with a shot of effervescent salt fizz! Full of oils and soothing natural ingredients to soften skin long after you've stepped out of the bath, this is one nightcap you'll want to savor.
Ingredients:1 Cup Rock Salt 1 Tsp. Essential Oil #1, 1/2 Tsp. Essential Oil #2 1 Tsp. Food Coloring #2, 1/2 Tsp. Food Coloring #2 1 T Foaming Concentrate 1 T citric acid |
Steps:1. Put salt in bowl or large measuring cup. Add foaming concentrate and stir well, distributing the concentrate completely. 2. Add fragrance and color and stir again. Spread on wax paper and let dry. 3. Repeat with another color and scent. It might take a day or two so be patient. 4. When dry (it will be a bit tacky feeling), layer the colors into a glass jar. Reap the rewards of aromatherapy and colortherapy while hiding from the world in your bathtub. |
How-tology: Sea Salt Scrub
Time for some sea-side fun! For smooth, perfectly polished skin, massage over wet skin, paying special attention to dry, rough areas. Full of oils and soothing natural ingredients to soften skin.
Ingredients:1/4 Cup Sea Salt 1 Tsp. Essential Oil 1 Tsp. Food Coloring 1/2 Cup Glycerin 2T Avocado Oil 2T Olive Oil |
Steps:1. Place Avocado Oil, Olive Oil, and glycerin in a small bowl. 2. Add coloring and fragrance to sea salt. 3. Mix sea salt and oils until well blended. Store in an air tight container. Try this formula with your favorite relaxing blends of essential oil for a sleepy time treat. |
How-tology: Your Perfect Bubble Bath
When was your last bubble bath? Create blissful bubbles to reacquaint us with the forgotten joys of the bubble bath.
Ingredients:1/4 cup Foaming Concentrate, or substitute 1/2 cup unscented shampoo 3/4 cup water 3/4 teaspoon salt - regular table salt is fine 15 drops essential oil 1 drop food coloring |
Steps:1. Pour foaming concentrate into a bowl and add water. Stir gently until well mixed. 2. Add salt, and stir until mixture thickens. 3. Add cherry fragrance oil and food coloring, and place in decorative bottle. To use, add one tablespoon to warm running bath water. To create your own custom scent, you may use any fragrance oil you choose in this recipe. |

6 Ways Apple Cider Vinegar Will Change Your Beauty Routine
Hello there bath and beauty lovers! We are taking you to the kitchen this week to tell you about a bath and body staple that’s been hiding in your pantry. Sure you can use apple cider vinegar in sauces and salad dressings, but there is way more to this vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is made through a double fermentation process that reduces down to some pretty powerfully preserved nutrients. Apple cider vinegar is rich in potassium, malic acid, calcium, acetic acid, and a whole slew of vitamins (A, B1, B2, B6, C and E to be precise) that are great for the body. Check out the tips below to see how you can use apple cider vinegar:
1. Detoxify your Skin
The nutrient rich formula of apple cider vinegar draws out toxins on the skin surface. Use a cotton swab to dab the vinegar on your face and rinse thoroughly.
2. Reduce Age Spots
Apple cider vinegar contains hydroxyl acids that are great for removing dead skin cells. Reduce again spot by apply vinegar to the skin twice a week and let it sit on the skin surface for 30 minutes before rinses for a proper treatment.
3. Get Rid of Acne
Another benefit of apple cider vinegar is it is antibacterial, so it’s great at taking down difficult acne. Simply apply a mixture of one parts vinegar to two parts water to combat breakouts.
4. Give Hair a Healthy Shine
Boost your hair’s natural shine by mixing equal parts water and apple cider vinegar. Use this mixture once or twice a week to perk up your hair!
5. Fight and Correct Wrinkles
When diluted significantly with water, apple cider vinegar is great for fighting fine lines and wrinkles. Dab onto problem areas and let the vinegar sit for a few minutes then rinse off. Use over a 6 week period to see best results.
6. Soothe Sunburn
Nothing’s worse than a nasty sunburn. When you try to soak out your burn, add a cup of apple cider vinegar to the water for some added relief.

Make Your Own Bath Blasts!
Here's a hunka bubbling bath bliss for ya, a virtual chunk of Jacuzzi! Learn how to make this naturally-scented bath fizzy full of soothing oils and softening salts just for you to enjoy!
Steps:
Combine dry ingredients. Mix all the wet ingredients together and SLOWLY add to dry mixture. Be careful not to add the wet ingredients too quickly, otherwise the mix will start fizzing. Once this happens, the mixture is ruined. The mixture should be toward the dry end. It should look like lightly damp sand. Firmly press mixture into the mold. Allow to set for 30 seconds. Unmold. You may have to tap the mold slightly for it to pop out. Allow to dry 24 hours prior to using. Then drop one in the tub- and relax!
Bath Blast Dry Ingredients:
1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid (do not substitute ascorbic acid)
1/2 cup corn starch
Optional: 1/3 cup epsom salts or coarse sea salt
Wet Ingredients:
2 1/2 T. sweet almond oil
3/4 T. water
at least 1/4 teaspoon and up to 1 teaspoon of desired essential oils or fragrance oils
1/4 teaspoon borax as an emulsifier vegetable or other natural colorant (optional) - liquid food coloring works well.
Molds (use candy mold, soap molds or any small. plastic container)
Bacne Be Gone!
Stubborn back acne (aka bacne) is a hereditary problem that often requires oral prescription antibiotics, says New Orleans dermatologist Mary Lupo. “Acne on the back is much more resistant to treatment than acne on the face, so you need to treat it aggressively.” And since skin on the back is tougher, it can take tougher products. Lupo recommends a prescription vitamin A cream or 10 percent benzoyl peroxide wash.
For milder cases or the occasional breakout, treat spots with over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide lotion. Peels can help unclog pores, but Lupo says these should be a supplementary treatment.
Since bacteria can exacerbate the condition, always wear clean bras and T-shirts when working out and put a clean towel down before lying on exercise machines or mats at the gym. And never go straight into the steam room after a sweaty workout—shower first to get rid of dirt and bacteria.

So, you may have gotten a sample in your Birch Box, or maybe you've seen the ads and heard the hype about St. Tropez's newest product release the Gradual Tan In Shower. ($28)
This product is revolutionary in the fact that you can literally get tan, while in the shower!! Simply do your normal routine.....suds, shampoo, shave, sing, whatever, but then your last step is to apply the tanning lotion to damp skin. Now comes the hard part--you MUST wait 3 minutes before rinsing the stuff off. So for 3 minutes why not decompress from your day, do a mini workout, practice that breathing technique from yoga!! However you choose to spend your 3 minutes is totally up to you!!
After rinsing, simply pat dry and watch your skin get a nice, natural tan. This is "gradual" so remember that it builds as time goes on. Also, the more often you apply it, the darker your tan will look. We have also noticed it works really well on fair complected people. Those sun worshipers in our office, did not see a huge difference, because their base tan was already well established.
The St Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower also has a nice light fragrance that is not your typical tanning scent. It was pleasant to wear, and my husband even noticed I had a "new smell" (typical man terms for ya!)
