flaunt the right shade
Choosing the right Shade of red
Whether it was faked on or baked on, your summer tan took work. Don't blow that glow...flaunt it with the right red!
Don't be afraid
Summer's new crop of reds are sheerer and more wearable than ever before. Here's how to choose the right shade for you.
If you have light to medium skin
Choose orange-red lipsticks like crimson as they tend to warm up lighter skin (like Bed Head Lipstick in Romance or Drama).
If you have olive or dark skin
Look for blue-red lipsticks (those with a purple-pink or fuchsia effect like Bed Head Lipstick in Fashion). These shades are especially dramatic and will set off darker complexions beautifully. And remember, anyone can wear red, just give it a try!
Some of the benefits of red lipstick:
- Makes yellow teeth whiter with blue undertones
- Makes thin lips look more prominent
- Full lips can be minimized by brown or blue reds
Tricks for long-lasting red lipstick:
- First apply lip balm to prevent cracking or creases in color.
- Apply a small amount of foundation, let it dry, and you'll have an evenly neutral base.
- Dust lips with powder to give a matte feel.
- Line lips with either neutral or matching shade of lipstick to prevent color from bleeding off lips.
- Apply 1 coat of lipstick, blot, and apply another coat.
- Dab lips with lip gloss to add glistening shine.
